Windows for the eco superstar

As you pull, slide or shove open your windows during this wonderful weather, take a look at what your working with. We rely on windows to protect our home from weather, hot and cold temperature, even UV rays that can damage interior furnishings. Windows have a come a long way since the Romans first started making them out of glass some 1900 year ago. With improved technology, local rebates and federal tax credits, this summer is a great time to replace your old and worn windows.

Popular window replacements include vinyl, wood and aluminum. While each has its own advantages, our vinyl windows combine incredible energy efficiency with affordability. Vinyl is low maintenance (never have to paint), is easy to clean, and stands up to Utah's sun very well.
We can of course install any window you would like, but with the utility rebates and ENERGY STAR tax credits available, we recommend the triple pane, Low E argon filled vinyl window. The rebates and tax credits more than pay for the difference between a double and triple paned window.

Low-E (low-emissivity) is a coating on the glass that reflects much of the radiant heat that passes through your windows every day. This will help particularly in the summer, when you are cooling the air inside and attempting to keep the sun and warm air outside. The spaces between the three panes of glass are filled with argon gas, a safe way to boost the efficiency of the window. The Low-E coating and the argon gas alone are nearly 100% more efficient than a single pane of glass.

New energy efficient windows add value to your home, increase curb appeal, and can really save you money heating and cooling your home. Our vinyl windows are affordable and can be ordered in a variety of colors. An estimate takes only a few minutes and as your new windows are being installed we'll help you fill out all the rebate and tax credit information.

The EPA decision and your utility bill

Buried between the news of the pirates and the handshake between Obama and Chavez in Trinidad was the news that the EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson had signed a 133-page endangerment filing which clearly declares that greenhouse gases are harmful to human health. While it may be incredible to believe it has taken the EPA this long to come to this conclusion, this step helps the Obama administration and their supporters in Congress continue to press for comprehensive climate legislation. The ruling now goes to a 60 day public comment period, after which the EPA must act to regulate emissions that contribute to green house gases. The American Clean Energy and Security Act put forth by Senators Waxman and Markey includes regulations on emissions and will probably be debated further before the EPA is forced to act. It seems the Obama administration would rather have new regulations imposed by congress rather than by the EPA. For the interested I have attached the 133 page document to your right.
So what does this mean for the homeowner? Let's say I make electricity. I have built an enormous coal plant in western Wyoming and service many of the western states with my electricity. Under any climate legislation passed by the U.S. Congress I will be taxed on the emissions my coal plant produces. Now if you were me, would you absorb the costs of the new tax, thereby reducing your profit, or would you pass them off to the hundreds of thousands of customers that have no choice in the matter? Exactly. Welcome to the new age of energy costs.
Instead of waiting until your energy bill has a "American Clean Energy and Security Act Surcharge" on it, call us so today so we can help you take the steps towards a more energy efficient home.
